Cannabdiol CBD side effects and benefits of using CBD oil

Cannabidiol, or CBD as it is known, is a natural chemical compound that is gaining increasing recognition as a supplement for many ailments. It is worth learning about the advantages and disadvantages, i.e. the benefits and risks of potential side effects of its use. More widely known as CBD, it is one of over 100 chemical compounds - cannabinoids - found in the hemp plant, also known as fibre hemp in Poland, and in particular its L. Sativa variety.

Cannabidiol CBD side effects and benefits of using CBD oil

It is important to note that CBD does not exhibit the psychoactive properties typical of another cannabinoid such as THC, and studies to date have shown no risk of addiction. Unlike the THC found in traditional recreational marijuana, CBD does not have an intoxicating effect.

This characteristic makes the CBD contained, for example, in CBD oil, but also in other products containing natural cannabidiol, have become a valuable option for those seeking relief from pain or other intractable symptoms without the unwanted altered state of consciousness effects typical of recreational marijuana or some prescription drugs.

You can find out more about the action here: CBD effects and I have discussed cannabidiol itself here: What is CBD

CBD oil is produced in a relatively simple way by extracting cannabidiol under sterile laboratory conditions. The extract is then mixed with, for example, organic, cold-pressed hemp oil in the appropriate proportions to obtain the desired product concentration.

CBD oil is gaining gigantic popularity worldwide as more and more studies emerge indicating and confirming the enormous potential of its main active compound, CBD cannabidiol, in supporting traditional treatments for a wide range of ailments such as chronic pain or depression and anxiety. More and more positive opinions are also expressed by doctors.

When it comes to CBD side effects are among the lightweight and non-permanent. You will read about the side effects of CBD use in the second part of the article.

CBD full spectrum hemp oils may have analgesic effects

Cannabis has been used as a painkiller as far back as prehistoric times, with sources stating that traces of its use for this purpose date back to 2900 BC.

Nowadays, scientists have discovered that certain compounds in cannabis, including CBD, are responsible for its analgesic properties.

The human body is equipped with a specialised system called the endocannabinoid system (ECS), which is responsible for the regulation and proper functioning of many key life processes including sleep, appetite, pain and immune system performance.

The body produces endocannabinoids, which are neurotransmitters that bind cannabinoid receptors in the human nervous system.

Studies have shown that CBD can help reduce chronic pain by affecting the activity of receptors in the endocannabinoid system, reducing inflammation and interacting with neurotransmitters.

For example, one study showed that CBD injections reduced pain after surgery in laboratory animals. Another study showed that CBD administered orally significantly reduced both pain and inflammation associated with sciatic neuritis.

Several human studies have unequivocally shown that the combination of CBD and THC (the legal limit for THC in consumer products including CBD oil is 0.2%) effectively helps treat rheumatic pains and those associated with progressive multiple sclerosis symptoms.

One study of 47 people with multiple sclerosis found that patients treated with a CBD and THC combination over a one-month period experienced significant improvements in quality of life, pain reduction and discomforting muscle spasms compared to a control group taking a placebo.

Another study found that the aforementioned preparation significantly reduced pain during movement and at rest, as well as sleep quality among 58 people with severe rheumatoid pain.

CONCLUSIONS:

CBD in combination with THC can be effective to minimise pain by acting as an analgesic for conditions such as multiple sclerosis and rheumatic pain.

CBD full spectrum hemp oil can reduce anxiety and depression

Anxiety and depression are common mental health problems in modern society. They have a devastating impact on the health and wellbeing of huge numbers of people.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has placed depression at the top of its list of the most dangerous modern mental disorders. Anxiety and anxiety ranked sixth in this infamous ranking.

Anxiety and depression are traditionally treated with pharmacological drugs, which have numerous side effects and adverse reactions including drowsiness, excitement, insomnia, sexualogical problems and headaches.

Furthermore, drugs such as benzodiazepines can be addictive and lead to abuse.

CBD oil is showing promising results as a therapeutic agent for patients suffering from anxiety and depression leading to a growing interest in this natural preparation.

One study of 24 patients suffering from social anxiety received either 600mg of CBD or a placebo just before a test involving public speaking.

The group that received CBD showed significantly lower levels of anxiety, cognitive impairment and discomfort when speaking compared to the group that received placebo.

CBD has also been used safely in young patients, children treated for insomnia and anxiety associated with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

CBD has also shown effective antidepressant effects during several studies conducted. These antidepressant properties are linked to CBD's ability to act on serotonin receptors in the brain, which regulate mood and social behaviour.

You can read more about this in this article: https://purehemp.pl/cbd-a-depresja/

CONCLUSIONS:

The use of CBD has been shown to reduce stress and depression in both animals and humans.

May alleviate symptoms typical of cancer sufferers

CBD contained in preparations such as CBD oil or full spectrum hemp oil with CBD can alleviate symptoms associated with cancer and the side effects of traditional cancer therapies such as nausea, vomiting and pain.

One study tested the effects of CBD and THC in a group of 177 cancer patients suffering from severe pain that traditional, pharmacological painkillers could not cope with.

Those treated with an extract of both compounds experienced a significant reduction in pain compared to patients receiving only THC extract.

CBD can also support the reduction of chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting which are the most common side effects of chemotherapy among cancer patients.

Of course, there are pharmacological drugs produced and dedicated to this purpose, but they happen to be ineffective prompting people to seek alternative methods and remedies including natural preparations such as CBD oils and full spectrum hemp oils with CBD.

A study of 16 people undergoing chemotherapy showed that a one-to-one combination of THC and CBD applied orally via spray reduced nausea and vomiting after chemotherapy better than standard methods alone.

Some test-tube and animal studies have shown that CBD may have anti-neoplastic properties. For example, one test-tube study showed that highly concentrated CBD induced cell death in human breast cancer cells.

Another study indicated that CBD inhibited the spread of cancer cells in mice.

However, it must be taken into account that these are test-tube and animal studies and thus can only suggest a potential effect in humans. Further studies are necessary in order to reach clear conclusions.

CONCLUSIONS:

Although CBD has shown the ability to reduce symptoms typical of cancer and may even exhibit anti-cancer properties, more research is needed to clearly assess its efficacy and safety.

CBD hemp oil can reduce acne

Acne is a common skin condition affecting more than 9% of the population.

It is thought to be caused by a number of factors including genetics, bacteria, inflammation and overproduction of sebum, an oily substance secreted by the skin's sebaceous glands.

Based on recent scientific findings, CBD can effectively help treat acne due to its anti-inflammatory properties and ability to reduce sebum overproduction.

One test-tube study showed that CBD prevented excessive sebum secretion by sebaceous gland cells, enhanced anti-inflammatory effects and prevented the activation of acne-inducing factors such as pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Another of the studies showed similar effects of CBD. Its conclusions pointed to the potentially high efficacy and safety of treating acne with CBD preparations due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties.

Although the aforementioned results are promising, more human studies are needed to unequivocally assess the efficacy of CBD in the treatment of acne.

CONCLUSIONS:

CBD also in the form of CBD oil or full spectrum hemp oil with CBD can show positive effects in the therapy and treatment of skin acne due to its strong anti-inflammatory properties and its ability to control the overproduction of sebum by the skin's sebaceous glands.

CBD may exhibit neuroprotective properties

Researchers believe that CBD's ability to positively influence the functioning of the endocannabinoid system and other brain signalling systems may provide an advantage and value for people with neurological disorders.

In fact, one of the best researched properties of CBD is related to the treatment of neurological disorders such as epilepsy and multiple sclerosis. Although these studies are relatively new, many have shown promisingly positive results.

The spray, which is a combination of CBD and THC, has been tested and proven safe and effective for use to reduce spastic muscle spasms in multiple sclerosis patients.

In one study, the efficacy of the formulation was 75% with 276 multiple sclerosis patients tested who experienced spastic muscle spasms resistant to traditional drug treatment.

In another study, 214 people with severe epileptic seizures were given between about 2 and about 5 grams of CBD oil per kg of body weight. The intensity of epileptic seizures decreased by an average of 36.5%.

Another study showed that CBD oil significantly reduced epilepsy activity in children suffering from Dravet syndrome, a highly complex childhood epileptic disorder, compared to a placebo group.

It is important to note that in both cases of the mentioned studies, some patients experienced the opposite effects of convulsions, fever or diarrhoea.

CBD, which contains CBD oil, for example, has also been studied for its potential positive efficacy in the treatment of several other neurological disorders.

For example, some studies have shown that CBD increases quality of life and improves sleep quality for Parkinson's disease patients.

Additionally, test-tube and animal studies have shown that CBD acting as an anti-inflammatory can reduce inflammation helping to prevent the neurodegenerative effects associated with Alzheimer's disease.

In one long-term study, researchers administered CBD to mice with a genetic predisposition to Alzheimer's disease, discovering that CBD helps prevent the onset of cognitive impairment.

CONCLUSIONS:

Although the number of studies is still limited at the moment, it has been shown that CBD is effective in helping to treat symptoms associated with epilepsy and Parkinson's disease. CBD has also shown effectiveness in inhibiting the development of Alzheimer's disease during test tube and laboratory animal studies.

CBD may promote stronger heart health

A recent study linked the effects of CBD to several benefits and positive effects on cardiovascular function, including the ability to reduce high blood pressure.

High blood pressure is associated with an increased risk of numerous health problems such as stroke, heart attack and metabolic syndrome.

Research indicates that CBD may be a natural and effective compound to help treat the problem of high blood pressure.

In one recent study, 10 healthy men were given a dose of 600mg of CBD oil and shown to lower resting blood pressure compared to a placebo group.

During the same study, the men were exposed to stressors that normally raise blood pressure. Interestingly, a single dose of CBD allowed the men to experience a lower-than-normal increase in blood pressure during testing.

Researchers have suggested that the stress- and anxiety-reducing properties exhibited by CBD are responsible for its ability to help lower blood pressure.

In addition, several animal studies have demonstrated that CBD helps to reduce inflammation and cell death associated with heart disease due to its very strong antioxidant properties and ability to reduce stress levels.

For example, one study found that CBD therapy reduced oxidative stress and prevented heart damage in mice with diabetes and heart disease.

CONCLUSIONS:

Although more human studies are needed, the potential benefits of using CBD e.g. in the form of CBD oil or full spectrum hemp oil and its positive effects on cardiovascular function, including lowering blood pressure and preventing heart disease, are very likely.

Some other potential benefits of using CBD

CBD has been studied for its positive effects of its use in health problems other than those indicated above.

Although further research is needed, it is believed that CBD can demonstrate usefulness and could potentially support and assist in the treatment of many other health problems:

Antipsychotic effects: research suggests that CBD may help people with schizophrenia and other mental disorders by reducing psychotic symptoms.

Addiction treatment: CBD has shown the ability to modify circuits in the brain associated with drug addiction. In rats, for example, CBD has been shown to reduce the animals' dependence on morphine and behaviours typical of heroin addiction.

Anti-cancer effects: In test tube and animal studies, CBD has shown anti-cancer effects. In animals, it has been shown to prevent the spread of cancer cells in breast, prostate, brain, colon and lung cancers (38).

Prevention of diabetes: In mice suffering from diabetes, CBD therapy reduced the intensity of the disease by 56% and significantly reduced inflammation.

CONCLUSIONS:

Some studies suggest that CBD can be an effective support and aid in the treatment of diabetes, the treatment of addiction, the treatment of mental disorders and certain types of cancer. Although more human studies are still needed to confirm and document this effect.

CBD side effects?

Natural CBD is generally very well tolerated by the human body and considered to be completely safe. In large and very large doses, however, it can cause adverse reactions, i.e. side effects, in some people. Before starting uuse of CBD oil in addition to determining the dosage worth knowing what side effects may occur due to an increase in the concentration of CBD in the body.

Basically, if you are wondering whether CBD oil can cause harm then the answer is one: when used correctly and as recommended, CBD hemp oil poses a trace risk to your wellbeing or health.

When it comes to CBD side effects most commonly described in studies may include:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Changes in appetite
  • Fatigue or drowsiness
  • Dry mouth
  • Annoyance
  • Mood swings
  • Dizziness
  • Stomach pain

Cannabidiol can affect the function of the body's functional systems, causing disordered effects. These occur very rarely and some have so far only been observed in animal model studies and not in human studies. The risk of their occurrence is very low and occurs basically only with the ingestion of very large doses, which, in the light of safe dosage protocol recommendations or manufacturers' recommendations, should be considered an 'overdose'.

Some of the conclusions presented below are from studies on the effects of recreational or medical cannabis usewhich also contain cannabinoids including large amounts of THC. It is important to remember that smoking cannabis is by no means the same as using hemp oils produced from cannabis seeds. Also, the doses used in CBD supplementation differ significantly from the doses used in research into the therapeutic and medical use of cannabinoids. Cannabinoid supplementation means significantly lower doses than their therapeutic or curative use.

CBD side effects can trigger in:

  • Endocrine system - a reduction in FSH, LH and testosterone hormones has been observed in men who regularly smoke cannabis. Researchers have linked this to the binding of certain cannabinoids (primarily THC) to CB1 receptors. However, other studies suggest that CBD binds minimally to CB1, and thus it is more likely that THC is responsible for this disordered effect. Decreased concentrations of the aforementioned hormones can lead to reduced fertility in men.

CONCLUSION: smoking cannabis can lead to reduced fertility in men
SOURCE: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5660879/

  • Reproductive system - CB1 receptors are present on the surface of sperm cells. This means that endocannabinoids affect their function. For example, an excess of anandamide affects the 'slowing down' of sperm motility. CBD inhibits the enzymatic breakdown of anandamide, and thus may indirectly affect the lowering of male sperm fertility. It is important to bear in mind that sperm activity and sperm count are affected by many other factors such as age and blood pressure.

CONCLUSION: long-term use of high doses of cannabinoids may reduce sperm activity and sperm count in male semen
SOURCES: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2219526/

  • Immune system - there are studies indicating immunomodulatory properties of cannabidiol - Immunomodulation is a nice scientific term for the effect of strengthening the immune system and the body's self-repairing activities. There are also studies indicating the effect of CBD on the amount of certain cytokines in the body. In the conclusions of the study below in the sources, we can read that this reaction is disordered in patients with HIV and in some cases of cancer. What is beneficial for one person may have a negative effect on another.

CONCLUSION: AIDS and cancer patients should be particularly cautious about the use of cannabinoids including CBD even though their supplementation may be helpful in
minimising some of the side effects of conventional medical therapies for these diseases
SOURCES: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9858061

  • Circulatory system - inhibition of the enzymatic breakdown of anandamide raises its concentration in the blood. Anandamide, on the other hand, reduces the heart rate and dilates the blood vessels leading to a drop in blood pressure. An excessive drop in blood pressure is, of course, a feeling of drowsiness, fatigue and also syncope. This is also important for people taking pharmacological drugs for blood pressure regulation. Such individuals should not use cannabidiol without the consultation and supervision of a doctor.

CONCLUSION: the problem of falling blood pressure (hypotension) is a risk when cannabinoids are used excessively (including overdose), it is important to follow the recommendations of the
dosage-related; cardiac patients on cryovigilance pharmacological drugs should not use cannabinoids without a
agreements with the doctor

  • Gastrointestinal tract - cannabidiol is metabolised in the liver. This means that excessive, prolonged use of it can besmirch the liver and eventually lead to liver damage. CBD is no different in this respect from, for example, natural garlic, the consumption of which is also associated with an increase in liver enzymes.CONCLUSION: Responsible use of dietary supplements such as cbd extract is as important as with any other supplements, drugs, stimulants or even
food ingredients. Always follow your doctor's instructions, the safe dosage or the directions of the product manufacturer to minimise the risk of liver damage.

As can be seen in the case of CBD side effects are mostly unaffected and, most importantly, temporary. Responsible use minimises risks therefore safe use and dosage of CBD supplements is important.

Allergic reactions

What about an allergic reaction? Can CBD and supplements based on this chemical be allergenic?

Yes. The available sources indicate that allergies to cannabis chemicals, although very rare, can occur. This problem applies to any form of cannabinoid use. Additionally, an allergy can occur due to an allergy to other ingredients in the formulation, e.g. the carrier oil (usually cold-pressed hemp seed oil, coconut oil, MCT oil or olive oil). If you know that you are allergic to any of the ingredients in the praprat, discontinue use.

CBD reacts with some drugs. This is especially true for drugs metabolised in the liver by P450 group enzymes. Before using CBD oil or consuming full spectrum hemp oil, consult your doctor to ensure that it is safe in your case and will not lead to potentially dangerous interaction.

The safety of CBD use has been confirmed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

You can find an article on this topic and a full translation of the WHO report here: https://purehemp.pl/baza-wiedzy/raport-who-na-temat-cbd/

CONCLUSIONS:

Although CBD and CBD products such as CBD full spectrum hemp oil are considered safe, they can cause some unwanted side effects such as diarrhoea, appetite changes and fatigue in some people. The risk of more severe side effects is also present, but can be minimised by a sensible and responsible approach to their use. Cannabidiol may also interact with certain medications.

CBD cannabidiol side effects and benefits of use - summary

CBD has been researched for its potential positive role in therapies and treatments for many conditions including anxiety, worry, depression, but also acne or heart disease. For people with cancer, it may offer a natural alternative to traditional methods of pain relief and symptom reduction.

Research into further potential and actual benefits of CBD use is still ongoing.

It is therefore almost certain that new areas of application for this natural preparation will be discovered in the near future.

Although we still have much to learn about the efficacy of CBD, the results of recent studies and the position of the world's top human health institutions suggest that CBD may represent a safe, highly effective chemical compound of natural origin. CBD preparations such as CBD oil or full spectrum hemp oil with natural CBD, which are showing therapeutic potential today, could prove to be a real support for patients struggling with a number of conditions and health problems. Their use as a dietary supplement seems to be well established.

On the other hand, as far as side effects are concerned, CBD side effects show little severity and are short-lived. However, the risk of interactions with other drugs should be taken into account before deciding to include CBD hemp oil permanently in the daily diet.
